The name ‘Blood Moon’ refers to the typical dark red colour that the moon turns during a lunar eclipse. A lunar eclipse occurs when the moon passes directly behind Earth’s shadow, when the Sun, the Earth, and the Moon are exactly aligned, with the Earth in between.
